Edina Native's Egg Farm Finalist for 30-Second Super Bowl Ad

Jason Amundsen's northeast Minnesota farm, The Locally Laid Egg Co., is one of four small businesses with a chance to win a 30-second ad in the Super Bowl, to be seen by more than 100 million people.

An Edina native's 2,500-chicken egg farm could be getting a whole lot of exposure.

Jason Amundsen's northeast Minnesota farm, The Locally Laid Egg Co., is one of four finalists to win a free 30-second Super Bowl ad in a competition sponsored by small-business software company Intuit.

Online voting started Monday to pick a winner. The chosen spot will be seen by more than 100 million people and be worth $4 million in exposure.

Amundsen quit his job as a grant writer for nonprofits just over a year ago and now operates two egg farms, one in Wrenshall, Minn., and another in Iowa, with plans to open a third.

“I told my wife if we wanted some sort of stability we would have to step out on a limb,” he told the Star Tribune. “Growing up in the suburbs you don’t have an appreciation for the manual skills needed to do this."

Amundsen's ad shows him sitting in a bucolic pasture, surrounded by chickens.

“Our hens are all named Lola,” he says. “That’s right, she’s a sassy chicken.”
