Edina Police Schooling Residents in Coyote Hazing

The presentations are being offered to concerned citizens through March 29.

In light of last year's string of coyote-related attacks, the Edina Police Department is teaching residents how to properly haze the animals.

Animal Control Officer Tim Hunter said his goal is the "empower residents" and help them realize they can have control over coyotes.

The hour-long presentations are being held from 7-8 p.m. in the council chambers of Edina City Hall on Mondays and Thursdays through March 29. The presentation will teach residents proper methods for hazing coyotes, explain what they can expect from the animals after the hazing and will provide some preventative measures residents can take to keep coyotes away.

Hunter said other metropolitan areas have had success lowering the coyote population through hazing, with hopes Edina can accomplish the same.

“It’s really a community effort to keep the coyotes away,” he said.
