3-Alarm Fire Devastates Edina Home

Residents were present at the time of the fire, but officials report they were successfully evacuated and no injuries were sustained as a result of the massive fire.

A three-alarm fire in the 6600 block of Kenney Place on Monday night, June 3, caused a significant amount of damage to an Edina home, including causing part of its roof to collapse.

Residents were present at the time of the fire, but officials report they were successfully evacuated and no injuries were sustained as a result of the massive fire.

Edina firefighters were dispatched to the home at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday evening, with the first crews on scene finding flames shooting from the roof. A third alarm was called, bringing mutual aid from a number of neighboring fire departments. Hennepin County EMS and CenterPoint Energy were also on scene to help fight the blaze.

As crews were working to put out the exterior portion of the fire, a portion of the home's roof collapsed. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control after approximately an hour, then went inside of the structure to take care of small fires and hot spots.

"The home is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, making it a little more difficult to get trucks and hoses to the home to extinguish the fire from all sides," Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer said. "If the home had residential sprinklers, it could have kept the fire from spreading so quickly and may have saved the home."

Officials estimate the home sustained significant damage during the incident, stating it could be a total loss. Initial reports indicate the fire may have started in the garage of the home, though the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by the department.
