Jack Jablonski Bucks Up Edina Hockey Coach Recovering From Fractured Neck
The 17-year-old Benilde-St. Margaret's student had some kind words for Laura Slominski during the debut of his radio show Wednesday.
Edina girls' hockey coach Laura Slominski has received an outpouring of support from the community following a violent crash during a women's game on Sunday that fractured the C5 vertebrae in her neck.
On Wednesday, Jack Jablonski, the 17-year-old Benilde-St. Margaret's student who suffered a devastating spinal cord injury during a December 2011 hockey game, joined Slominski's well-wishers.
"I feel for her, I know what it's like to go through it, and I hope for the best," Jablonski said during the debut of his new radio show, Hockey Night in Minnesota. "Spinal cord injuries, you never know what's going to come of it so you have to hope for the best."
Slominski is in physical therapy at North Memorial following a successful Tuesday surgery.
Edina High School issued a statement Wednesday saying it was still unclear whether Slominski would be able to coach this season, FOX 9 reported.
"Anyone who knows Laura, or Slomo as she is affectionately called, knows that she is a strong, dedicated woman who will fight hard to return to the ice and the classroom," Principal Bruce Locklear said.
Jablonski, on his radio show, said he could empathize with the hockey coach.

"Everyone has good days and bad days when they're going through rehab," Jablonski said on the radio show, according to FOX 9. "Life always sucks at some point, and we all get that."
