Edina Industrial Blvd Office Building Could Become Deli or Coffee Shop

The owner of an office building on Edina Industrial Boulevard, near Highway 100, wants to turn the building into a drive-through coffee shop or deli, adding improved lighting, landscaping, outdoor seating areas and sidewalks.

Frauenshuh Commercial Real Estate Group took its plans for the 5801 Edina Industrial Blvd building to the Edina City Council this week. The 12,916 square foot building currently houses a real estate office, a hair loss treatment center and a telecommunication switching site.

“We’re really thinking about reenergizing this corner, bringing it back to life,” David Anderson, a Frauenshuh agent, told the council at its Tuesday meeting.

City council members were enthusiastic about the proposal’s chance of bringing increased pedestrian activity to an industrial neighborhood already home to a Burger King and a Caribou.

Council member Mary Brindle said she passes the building during her daily commute.

“This industrial area needs a facelift,” she said. “Many of them value gardening and bring the landscaping out to the street, but it doesn’t help that the buildings are just flat things.”

Frauenshuh will be seeking a changed zoning from office to commercial.
