9-Year-Old Stowaway Returns to Minnesota

Hennepin County is petitioning to intervene in the life of the boy who drove a stolen delivery truck into an Edina squad car. A hearing will be held Wednesday.

The 9-year-old Minneapolis boy who drove a stolen truck into an Edina squad car and sneaked aboard a Delta flight to Las Vegas returned to Minnesota early Saturday afternoon.

The boy was the last passenger off Delta flight 1550 and was met at the airport by a number of police officers, an NBC producer who was onboard the plane told KARE 11. He was taken off the plane through a special staircase that led directly to the tarmac.

The boy had been kept in Nevada for nine days and appeared before Clark County judge Cynthia Giulliani last Tuesday, who spoke generally about child protective cases.

"If there is no domicile in Nevada, a child is usually transferred back to the state, their home state, where there's further proceedings," Giuliani told KARE 11.

Hennepin County's Human Services and the Public Health Department filed a petition Friday morning claiming the boy needs protection or services and asking to intervene in the life of the boy.

A hearing on the petition will be held Wednesday at the Juvenile Justice Center.
