The annual Hennepin County Sheriff's Office hosted its annual open house May 17 at the Sheriff's Enforcement Services Division in Brooklyn Park. The event is part of the Law Enforcement week and included highlights suchas dive team demonstrations, extrications using the "jaws of life', mounted patrol and more.

Jason Scott Utterback is charged with domestic assault by strangulation and interfering with a 911 call.
An Illinois man has been charged with strangling an Edina woman and preventing her from using her phone to call for help. Jason Scott Utterback, 41, of Robinson, IL, is charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine, and interference with an emergency call, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine. According to the criminal complaint, signed by Edina Police Detective Richard Lutz, police were called to an apartment in the 6700 block of Vernon Avenue South on May 8 on a report of a domestic assault in progress. Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek is currently overseas in Israel, attending an international counterterrorism program. Dubbed "2012 Law Enforcement Mission to Israel," the program is intended to provide attendees with a better understanding of homeland security and countering violent extremism that impacts both Israel and the U.S. The program includes discussions with Israeli government officials, military officers and leading academics, in addition to discussions regarding emergency preparedness from Israeli first responders including police, rescue and bomb disposal. The Edina Crime Prevention Fund and Edina Baseball Association are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the people responsible for the vandalism.
In hopes of finding the person—or group—responsible for vandalism to the Garden Park baseball field last weekend, the Edina Crime Prevention Fund and Edina Baseball Association are teaming up to offer a $1,000 reward. The baseball field turf was significantly damaged on or around Sunday, May 6, when police believe a four-wheel vehicle was driven in circles on the field. The groups are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension, arrest or conviction of anyone responsible for the vandalism. Anyone who might have information regarding the incident or suspects is encouraged to contact the Edina Police Department at (952) 826-1600. A Hennepin County grand jury cleared a Golden Valley police officer for his involvement in a fatal shooting last September on Interstate 394. According to reports, Officer Robert Zarrett of the Golden Valley Police Department spotted a car driving 90 mph on the interstate on Sept. 22, 2011. The driver was Katherine Marie Gordon, 58. "Gordon did not pull over, and her car wove in and out of the traffic lanes, still at a high rate of speed," according to a news release posted Thursday afternoon on the city's website. Police say Quentin Dale Roberts threatened to get a gun and kill a man outside a movie theater at Southdale Center last week.
A Minneapolis man has been charged with threatening to kill a man outside Southdale Center in Edina after accusing the man of stealing his keys. Quentin Dale Roberts, 29, is charged with making terroristic threats, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Roberts remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court.
