Ron Paul is set to speak at the Minnesota Republican convention Friday, and party activists in the Fifth District are preparing for a possible Paul win—with one local activist saying "I get the feeling I'm witnessing history." Paul is poised to make a strong showing in Minnesota after congressional-district conventions gave him 20 of 24 available national delegates. The Texas congressman was denied a speaking slot at the 2008 state convention, but has proven a popular candidate and speaker here since—turning fans away, for example, from an over-capacity speech in Arden Hills shortly before Minnesota's 2012 caucus night. Doesn't make any sense to call Ron Paul the underdog when he's already won more delegates than Romney in 10 states including Romney's home state! It's Romney who's the underdog at the conventions - it's only the media and the GOP establishment who keep saying Romney's the winner!   more ›

Edina Graduate, Popular Jazz Singer Christine Rosholt Dies

Friends are expressing their grief on Rosholt's Facebook page.

Edina High School graduate and Twin Cities’ jazz singer Christine Rosholt died suddenly Wednesday. Details concerning her death haven't been released. Rosholt was 46.  Friends have left messages and stories about Rosholt on her Facebook page, and the outpouring of support after her death has been overwhelming, her father, Steve Rosholt, said to The Star Tribune.  Rosholt wrote “Hope to see you on Thursday at Barbette” on her Facebook profile page, an apparent promotion of her upcoming gig at the Uptown restaurant last Thursday. That was her last post on the social media site. "It's nice that people remember her as always being vibrant and cheerful," he said. Longtime Edina Resident, Gophers Legend Murray Warmath Dies

The 98-year-old lived in Edina for nearly 50 years.

Murray Warmath, who guided the University of Minnesota football team to a national title and two trips to the Rose Bowl, died March 16 at the age of 98. Warmath resided for nearly 50 years in Edina. He died of natural causes as a resident at Friendship Village in Bloomington where he lived the last eight years of his life. Warmath’s funeral was held March 21 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Edina with a reception afterward at the Edina Country Club. His wife of 62 years, Mary Louis, and two children, son Bill and daughter Carol Dillow preceded him in death. A son, Murray Jr., a radiologist in San Diego, survives him. Born and raised in Tennessee, Warmath played football at the University of Tennessee in the early to mid-1930s, later …
