Sprongs Officially Leaving 50th & France

The local shoe store will be shutting down for good on June 28.

In a message to their loyal customers, Sprongs management officially announced they will be closing their Edina store on June 28. Sprongs, which sells Z-Coil shoes designed to alleviate foot, leg and back pain, will be leaving its France Avenue home when its lease comes up late next month. "Sprongs is closing after ten wonderful years of serving thousands of Minnesotans and people across the Midwest seeking comfort and relief from foot, leg and back pain," Sprongs management wrote to customers. "We would like to thank each one of you for supporting Sprongs over the years!" Back in March, Co-Owner Britt Molde told Patch they had decided to look at other available spaces and consider other options due to the high rent of the business …

Visions for Vacancies

Visions for Vacancies: Szechuan Star

What would you like to see replace the former Chinese restaurant on Hazelton Road?

Back when it was in business, Szechuan Star offered authentic Chinese cuisine to countless Edina customers. Now, it's nothing more than a conspicuously empty building on Hazelton Road. Given the location of the former restaurant, the structure seems like prime real estate for just about anything imaginable. With no apparent plans for the vacant space, we'd love to hear what you'd like to see move in. Post your suggestions in the comments section below and let everyone know what businesses you think would be a good fit. Looking at the State of Hennepin County

County Board Chair Mike Opat delivered the 2012 address today in Plymouth.

Hennepin County Board Chair Mike Opat gave the State of the County address today at the Plymouth Creek Center in Plymouth. The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce hosted the event. A State of the County address hasn't been given since 2009. The reason? "There have been no speeches because given the state of the economy and federal and state budgets there wasn’t much I could say that was interesting enough to warrant an event like this," Opat said. "Like the rest of public-sector America…we have been hunkered down and focused on the basics." During his speech, Opat touched on changes to several areas of the County, that were also highlighted in a county press release: Budget/Finances "The State of Hennepin County is one of flat budgets and …

(VIDEO) Jackie Roehl Reflects on Teacher of the Year Win

The latest episode of Edina E-Buzz includes an interview with Roehl, information for this year's senior class and a look at AP Testing.

Shortly after being named Minnesota's 2012 Teacher of the Year, Edina High School 10th-grade English teacher Jackie Roehl reflects on what the accomplishment means for her. In addition to being part of the National Teacher of the Year competition, Roehl gets to visit the White House, take a class at Harvard and—perhaps most exciting—attend International Space Camp. "All of my colleagues here at Edina are laughing at me at Space Camp, because I cannot even go on a roller coaster without throwing up," Roehl said. "So we'll see how Mrs. Roehl competes at Space Camp." The final edition of Edina E-Buzz for the 2012 school year also includes information on this year's AP Testing process and has some graduation details for the EHS class of 2012. …

Parents Talk: An Evil Clown Stalks Children in the Name of Birthday Fun

Apparently there is an "evil" clown that is hired to scare a child in the days leading up to his or her birthday. What?

A couple weeks ago, our Parents Talk discussion was on creepy kids toys. Many agreed that a clown, anything having to do with a clown or anything resembling a clown was straight up creepy. Well, an actor in the Swiss city of Lucerne has set himself up as the "evil" birthday clown. According to the Huffington Post and the Austrian Times, for a fee, parents can hire this psychotic clown—played by actor Dominic Deville—to leave menacing, booby-trapped letters for their children. He will also tease through text messages and phone calls. Deville warns the children they are being watched and that they will soon be the victim of an attack. At the end of the terror-filled week, the birthday boy or girl catches a cake in the face. According to the …

This does seem a bit cruel and unusual. However, I might be inclined to hire someone to mess with my 18+ child (I don't have one...this is hypothetical). That actually could be kind of funny..."Punking" your college freshman son/daughter could be cool. For instance, maybe you could hire an impostor dorm roommate, who would be the biggest jerk of all time. Then, a few days in, you could reveal the…   more ›
