Should the City of Edina Take Out Your Trash?

Edina residents are invited to learn more about the city's trash policy during two meetings scheduled in the next week by the League of Women Voters of Edina.

Homeowners are currently required to contract with one of seven garbage haulers licensed by the city, but a new state law could make it easier for Edina to transition into organized garbage collection.

"When neighbors choose different haulers, there can be a notable increase in noise, air pollution, traffic, and road repair costs from all the garbage trucks on the roads," the LWVE explains on its website. "This model is called open collection and it differs from organized garbage collection, where the city contracts with one or more haulers and coordinates collection."

During two upcoming meetings, Susan Naughton, of the League of Minnesota Cities, and Solvei Wilmot, Edina’s Recycling Coordinator, will speak about Edina's options.

Thursday, October 10, 9:45 –11:30 AM at the Edina Library
Saturday, October 12, 9:45 - 11:30 AM at Edina City Hall's Community Room
