Two Hornet Athletes Up for Annual Lacrosse Awards
Madeline Rodriguez is one of seven finalists for the 2013 Ms. Lacrosse title, while Austin Dover is among two players in the running for Mr. Goalie.
A pair of Edina lacrosse players are being recognized for their strong play this season, as both Madeline Rodriguez and Austin Dover are in the running for prestigious awards from the Minnesota Minute Men.
The Minute Men recently announced finalists for their 2013 awards—Mr. and Ms. Lacrosse, in addition to Mr. and Ms. Goalie—which will be presented during an awards banquet at noon on Sunday, June 9, at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul.
Senior Madeline Rodriguez is one of seven finalists this year for the title of Ms. Lacrosse, an award that started back in 2011. Rodriguez finished the season with 43 goals and 24 assists, with an average shooting percentage of 78.2.
Also in the running are:
- Emma Claire Fontenot (Eden Prairie)
- Bailey Forcier (Benilde-St. Margaret’s)
- Hannah Koloski (Lakeville North)
- Abbie Ness (Lakeville South)
- Paige Gardiner (Minnetonka)
- Dana Almquist (Stillwater)
The Mr. and Ms. Lacrosse awards are given to one outstanding senior high school boys lacrosse player and one outstanding senior high school girls lacrosse player in Minnesota. Likewise, Mr. and Ms. Goalie awards go to one outstanding male and female lacrosse goalie.
Winners are selected by a panel of Minnesota lacrosse community members, coaches and experts from around the state.
Edina didn't have any winners last season, but former Hornet Brooke Jones did bring home the title of Ms. Goalie back in 2011.
