Green Smoothies to Fuel Your New Years Resolution

It's the New Years and it's time to kick it off the right way by eating right. We have a collection of great smoothie recipes that are delicious and surprising.

Does your new years resolution involve eating less calories and more greens? You may be ripe for smoothie-making.

Smoothies can kickstart your day at breakfast or just help you feel like less of a bad person after a night of White Castle sliders. Keep in mind that smoothies are not the ultimate solution to your health goals. While they are delicious and can help you consume things you wouldn’t usually (like kale or chia powder), they do pack calories often at the expense of fiber. I swear - every month Elle magazine has an article about a girl going nearly mad on a liquid diet, so eat some solids too.

The Green Ones

What I like about green smoothies is that they are kind of weird. I’m someone who likes vegetables more than fruit, and I like any fruit experience that sneaks in some veggies. I picked out a couple recipes that look interesting for those that want to “go green” with their blender.

Green Machine Smoothie

This smoothie features cilantro and ginger, which means it will probably have an unusual, slightly spicy flavor.

Savory Green Smoothie

If you really like veggies because they’re more savory than sweet, this smoothie might intrigue you. Made with avocados cucumbers and garlic, it’ll please anyone who likes a bloody mary in the morning.

Green Tea Ginger Smoothie

This smoothie contains coconut water, matcha powder and even tofu. Weird but cool and healthy sounding.

Carrot-Apple-Ginger Smoothie

A carrot smoothie is still technically kind of a green smoothie, because it contains vegetables, right? Well, I wanted to put one in here. With apples and ginger, it sounds like a nice pickup for winter.

Excuse me while I go and tear my apartment apart trying to find my blender.

The new layout of the Patch is fine. A few of the liberal/left-wing posters are not happy thatRead More they can't have a running commentary on each story, and hurl personal insults at conservative posters.

Hi @mary kosters. Were you able to fill out the feedback form? We're collecting feedback so we canRead More decide what, if any, changes to make in the future with the layout. The lead photo of the marching band is intended to stay the same every day. That is not a story photo; it is a picture that shows a slice of life in Edina. Can you be a bit more specific about what you don't like about the division of news, home and business? Those divisions are almost identical to how things were divided prior to the redesign, so I want to understand what you find useless.
