Boogie with Barnyard Buddies this Saturday

The fourth annual petting zoo event will be held at Rosland Park.

Goats and sheep and rabbits, oh my. Add to that some calves, a pony, a donkey, chickens and a duck, and you’ve got the Barnyard Boogie at this Saturday.

Dennis Hauth, a farmer from River Falls, WI, will be bringing this furry and feathered party to Edina. For an hour and a half on Saturday morning, adorable animals will meet equally adorable kids and toddlers in this annual event that’s all about fun. Presented by the Edina Park and Recreation Department, this petting zoo event offers the youngest Edinans an opportunity to get up close and personal with some barnyard favorites.

“It’s pretty cute,” said Kristin Aarsvold, recreation supervisor with Edina Park and Recreation.

Coloring sheets and crayons will also be available for the little ones, and Aarsvold said that kids will be able to leave the Barnyard Boogie with a stylish barnyard-themed temporary tattoo to commemorate the experience.

The Barnyard Boogie is open to children seven years of age and younger and their parents. There will be popcorn, animal crackers and lemonade available for the kids, and—new this year—Starbucks is donating coffee for the adults. Aarsvold said past Barnyard Boogies have been a little chilly, as they are held in the morning hours, so coffee will be a welcome addition.

"It’s a great opportunity to meet other people in the area and for kids to make more friends in their age range," Aarsvold added.

This year marks the fourth annual Barnyard Boogie, and the third held at Rosland Park. The first Barnyard Boogie was held at the . Past Barnyard Boogies have averaged about 230 guests and the event has grown each year. This year, Aarsvold expects around 250 to attend.

Individuals can register in advance by going to EdinaParks.com and clicking on Edina Store or simply register in person at the event.

The organizers are hoping for good weather, but the Barnyard Boogie will be held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, you can find the animals underneath the shelter at Rosland Park.
