Dasilva’s parents had left her alone in their home on the 6100 block of Parklawn Avenue during a two-week vacation. Shortly after they returned home the evening of July 28, they started argued with Dasilva about the messiness of the house and about health insurance paperwork related to Dasilva’s chronic illness.

A little after midnight, the argument became heated, with Dasilva swearing at and pushing her father.

When her father attempted to call 911, Dasilva disconnected the phone’s modem and took the keys to her parents’ three vehicles.

Her father then took his handgun from an unlocked storage area in an effort to keep it out of his daughter’s hands.

When she saw him placing the gun in his pocket, she grabbed at the weapon, shouting, “I am going to shoot you, you son-of-a-bitch.”

After a struggle, her father prevailed and ran out the front door.

Dasilva armed herself with a knife sharpener, 12 to 15 inches long, and pursued her father into the front lawn.

He ran 30 to 40 feet before falling. Dasilva straddled him, pointing the metal cylinder down at his chest.

In the dark, her father believed the sharpener was a knife.

“I’m gonna stab you in the heart,” she said.

Her father calmed her down and she followed him into the house, where he found an alternative set of car keys. He then went into his car, locked the doors and started the engine.

But Dasilva came back out of the house and smashed the driver’s side window with the knife sharpener.

With a lap of glass, her father then drove to Edina Police headquarters.

When police arrived at the Dasilva home, they found Dasilva hiding in the back yard and arrested her.

She later admitted to threatening her father.
