Dispatch Switch: Edina Police Chief 'Excited to Serve Richfield'

Edina's city council approved a deal to handle Richfield's 911 calls on Tuesday.

With reporting by Chris Steller.

Edina approved an agreement Tuesday to take over emergency dispatch duties from the city of Richfield.

"Excited to serve the Richfield residents, businesses & visitors," Edina Police Chief Jeff Long wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

Richfield will pay Edina $14,058 per month under the agreement starting Dec. 1, with the fee being revised downward starting in 2015.

In return, Edina will cover an additional 45,000 police, fire and traffic calls per year, for which it will likely hire an additional two full-time dispatchers.
