Countryside Elementary Locked Down After Alleged Burglar Entered School

Police arrested the man in connection with two Wednesday-morning burglaries, one of which took place across the street from the school.

Countryside Elementary School was locked down Wednesday after a man who allegedly burglarized two Edina homes entered the school to evade police.

School staff noticed the man enter the building without checking in, Principal Karen Bergman wrote in a message to parents Thursday, according to the Star Tribune.

The man, who was not believed to have been armed, entered the school Wednesday morning while police were looking for the burglar. He left the school soon after he arrived.

Police arrested the man Wednesday after reviewing the school's security camera footage.

“We are pleased that news of the individual being apprehended can, in some way, bring closure to an unsettling incident,” Bergman wrote in her message to parents.

The man is being held in Hennepin County Jail, but has not yet been identified or charged.
