South View student arrest

A South View Middle School 9th grader was arrested at the school by Edina Police for carrying 2 switchblades and a steel knuckle.  There seems to be no interest in the community about the severity of the issue and the school system sees no reason to inform parents.  Both of these weapons that are illegal to carry in MN are often used by gangs.  Is Edina looking the other way hoping this child is not a member of a gang at the school?
The Edina Schools administration needs to be more communicative on these issues to parents and not just hope these problems go away.
