Diana Windhorst, Chilean-born Fulbright Scholar Who Wrote Her Own Obit, Dead at 74

Diana A. Windhorst, a Chilean-born Fulbright scholar who came to the United States to study English literature, died on Nov. 30 at the age of 74.

The Edina resident's self-penned obituary was published on Legacy.com:

Can I write my own obituary? It would say: I arrived in the best possible place (MN). I lived a wonderful life, thanks to Monsieur Windhorst. I loved music, and teaching...do you know that no matter how many times I told her, she kept telling me to lay (instead of "lie") down on the table? I laid so many eggs! I had a wonderful daughter - worth 10. She married a good man, and they had an incredible girl, my granddaughter.

Born in Valparaiso, Chile, Windhorst wrote her Fulbright thesis on Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. She taught both English and Spanish.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana E. Windhorst; son-in-law, Spencer Chandler; granddaughter, Olivia; and former husband, John W. Windhorst, Jr.

A Tibetan Buddhist prayer ceremony will be held Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:15 a.m.
