Newsweek Names Edina Best High School in Minnesota

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday, ranking Edina as the 121st best in the nation.

Newsweek has ranked Edina High School as the best high school in all of Minnesota and the 121st best in the nation.

This is the third consecutive year Edina has been rated the best high school in Minnesota by the national publication. This year's ranking also represents a significant jump up the list for EHS, which was ranked 154th in 2012.

Out of the 2,000 schools ranked this year by Newsweek, EHS was the only Minnesota school to break the top 300. In total, 46 Minnesota high schools made the 2013 list.

EHS is no stranger to Newsweek's rankings, having made the list for a number of years. The school was rated 76th nationally in 2011, 178th in 2010, 111th in 2009 and 93rd in both 2008 and 2007.

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Edina's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above.

The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. The final scores then determined Newsweek’s final rankings.
