Teavana Tea Emporium Opening in Southdale Center

The Starbucks-owned tea shop is planning a March opening.

Prefer tea over coffee? You'll want to check out Teavana, a new loose leaf tea emporium that will open in March in Edina’s Southdale Center.

Teavana, Starbucks' new foray into the tea market, opened its first location in New York City in October 2013 and has already opened eight locations in Minnesota malls and shopping centers.

According to its website, the goal of Teavana is "To provide fresh, high quality teas and the products to serve them. And to create a unique tea experience in each store by encouraging a positive, healthy outlook for all who enter."

The shop will sell a variety of loose leaf teas from across the globe as well as tea kettles, teapots, rock sugar, tea cups and mugs and other tea appliances. It will be located on the mall's first level, near Macy's.

There are Twin Cities Teavana stores located in Burnsville Center, Eden Prairie Center, the Mall of America, Maplewood Mall, Ridgedale Center and the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes.

I am a tea drinker but it seems the only places tea shops in the US survive are in areas with high concentrations of people who come from countries that drink more tea like England, China, India and others. I would be intersted to see the numbers of tea drinkers vs coffee drinkers in the US, maybe 95 (coffee) to 5% tea?

Tea drinkers now outnumber coffee drinkers in the USA, if iced tea is included (according to the National Beverage Institute.)
