Are There Pet-Eating Coyotes in Edina?

Edina Patch readers say that coyotes are responsible for killing cats and dogs.

When Natalie Anne posted on Edina Patch’s boards about a coyote killing her cat, readers were quick to agree that there may be a problem in Edina.

“We want everyone in Edina to know that there are coyotes killing pets in Edina,” Anne wrote. “Keep your pets and small children inside unless it is full daylight out.”

But even daylight may not keep the wild animals away.

“I saw a coyote wander through my front yard, walk next door and cross the street on a sunny afternoon,” one reader wrote back. “Daylight is not a safeguard for our pets.”

A few skeptical readers thought the pet owner may be to blame. “Keep your dog on a leash. Coyotes get to eat too,” wrote Michael Palus.

Edina’s issue with coyotes is not a new one. In May, Police Chief Jeff Long said that the community needs to accept the fact that coyotes are “here to stay.”
