Hockey Jamboree Will Honor Memory of 8-Year-Old Edina Boy

The deadline for registration is Dec. 15.

Quinn McManus Kirsch, an 8-year-old Edina boy who died unexpectedly on Jan. 7 from myocarditis, will be honored this winter with a hockey jamboree to celebrate his favorite sport.

The "Quinn's Cup" competition will start 9 a.m. on Jan. 11 in Centennial Lakes Park. Eight 4-on-4 teams and eight 3-on-3 teams will play on two rinks set up on the pond with boards and goals.

“Our family is very appreciative of the City of Edina, the staff at Centennial Lakes Parks, our friends and partners for being a part of Quinn’s Cup,” Kyle Kirsch, Quinn’s father, said in a statement. “We are excited to host an event we feel that kids and parents will enjoy, while at the same time honoring our son with something he loved to do—playing hockey on a backyard rink.”

The deadline to sign up is Dec. 15, with teams paying $200 for two 45-minute games.

Kirsch, a third-grader at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, was remembered by teachers for "his friendliness."

"His classmates always enjoyed being with him whether it was for a school project or a football game during recess," principal Maureen Trenary told Patch in January. "Students wanted to be in his presence. His teachers will always remember is smile, his trademark."
