A play penned by Edina High School senior Linnea Valdivia and English teacher Fred Cheng has advanced to the section finals of the state's One Act Play Competition.
"We Moo Shu a Merry Christmas," an original comedy performed at EHS last weekend, has been chosen as a finalist in the Minnesota State High School League's Class 6AA sectional competition. The play was written by Valdivia—who also student directed—after she attended a six-week workshop at the Minnesota Playwright Center last summer.
The full cast and crew of 15 EHS students will be taking part in the competition this Saturday, Feb. 2, at Minnetonka High School.
In a message to EHS Thespian supporters, advisor Tony Matthes said the group is incredibly proud of everyone involved in the production.
"We are so proud of them, including playwright and student director EHS senior Linnea Valdivia for writing such a funny, amusing, original play," Matthes wrote. "Good luck at the finals!"
Should Edina come out of sectionals with the title, they would then be invited to take part in the State One Act Play Festival Feb. 7-8 at St. Catherine University.
