Former Toy Company Owner Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud

Kim Robert Calkins, former owner of Edina-based Princess Soft Toys, entered a guilty plea in federal court on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

The former owner of an Edina-based toy company pleaded guilty to failing to pay federal employment taxes in court on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Kim Robert Calkins, who formerly co-owned Princess Soft Toys, entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Paul A. Mugnuson. Calkins admitted he failed to pay employment taxes for Princess Soft Toys employees to the IRS from 2008-2010.

Despite receiving regular notices informing him the taxes were due, Calkins allegedly neglected to pay any of the taxes he withheld from his employees. The total tax loss in the case is $852,361.54, according to U.S. Attorney B. Todd Jones' office. Judge Magnuson will determine Calkins' sentence at a future hearing.
