Family, Friends Flying Red Balloons in Honor of Deceased Toddler

Visitation will be held Friday in Edina, with friends of the family asking area residents to place red balloons outside of their homes as a show of support.

Family and friends throughout Southwest Minneapolis and Edina are flying red balloons Friday in honor of the 2-year-old Minneapolis boy who drowned in an Edina hot tub last weekend.

Chase Peterson and his family were reportedly visiting friends at the Lewis Ridge Condominiums on Saturday afternoon, March 12, when the toddler was found unconscious in a hot tub. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said members of Peterson family performed CPR on the toddler, but he had to be transported to when those attempts were unsuccessful.

Chase was later taken to the University of Minnesota Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled an accidental freshwater drowning as the cause of death, with the and Hennepin County Water Patrol both assisting with the investigation.

Chase is survived by his parents, Mandy and Brett Peterson, and older brother, Brady. Visitation for Chase will take place from 2-4 p.m. Friday, March 18 at , with the funeral immediately afterward at 4 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite jerseys to Friday's visitation, as Chase will be laid to rest in his prized Minnesota Wild jersey.

Friends of the Petersons also asked area residents to place red balloons outside of their homes Friday in a show of support for the grieving family.
