'Extremely Intoxicated' Edina Man Caught with Methamphetamine

An Edina man has been charged with methamphetamine possession after police say they found him slumped over the steering wheel of his car.

Troy Michael Eaves, 46, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to an alley in the 4300 block of Ewing Avenue South on Sept. 12 on a report of a vehicle with two people sleeping inside.

They found a car parked halfway in a driveway and halfway in the alley, with the engine running. Eaves, the driver, was slumped over the steering wheel. One of the officers awakened him and noted that he appeared "extremely intoxicated," according to the complaint.

The officer opened the driver’s side door, and Eaves fell out of the car, the complaint says.

Eaves was arrested because he was unable to perform field sobriety tests, according to the complaint. When police searched him, they found 0.2 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket.

Eaves has been released from custody on his promise to make all future court appearances. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Nov. 7 in Hennepin County District Court.
