The Minnesota boys basketball tournament might be getting an awful lot of attention in the world of athletics, but another Edina sport is hosting a tournament of its own Friday night.
According to the StarTribune, it's actually "the biggest high school badminton tournament of the regular season." The second annual Edina Invitational is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. Friday, Mar. 22, at South View Middle School.
In addition to Edina's varsity team—now in its third season—the tournament will see St. Paul Johnson, St. Paul Center, St. Paul Como Park, St. Paul Harding, St. Paul Highland Park, Hmong Academy and Eden Prairie High School in play. The invitational tournament will crown champions in seven brackets, including three doubles and four singles awards.
The sport is currently only offered at 18 schools throughout the metro, with St. Paul Johnson the two-time defending state champion.
